Meet Matt Sehlmeyer
I help travelers understand their options, recognize the real tradeoffs, and choose a vacation that fits the people actually taking the trip.
Sehlmeyer Travel is a single-owner travel agency. When you ask a question, compare ideas, review a proposal, or need help preparing for your trip, you work directly with me—not a call center or a rotating customer-service department.

Why Sehlmeyer Travel Exists
Travel Planning Should Help You Make Decisions—not Create More Confusion
Online travel planning gives people access to more choices than ever. That can be useful, but it can also make a trip harder to evaluate. Two resorts can look almost identical in photographs while offering very different beaches, room locations, food, activities, transfers, or family experiences. Two cruises at similar prices can feel completely different because of the ship, itinerary, cabin, dining, or traveler mix.
I started Sehlmeyer Travel in 2022 to give travelers a more personal way to sort through those decisions. My role is not to push the same destination, resort, cruise line, or vacation package on everyone. It is to understand what matters to you and explain which options appear to fit—and which ones probably do not.
My background combines formal education in Travel and Hospitality Management with hands-on experience researching, planning, booking, and supporting real client trips. The practical side matters: budgets, airport choices, room categories, transfers, documents, deadlines, weather, family needs, and what the vacation will actually feel like once you arrive.
How I Approach Planning
Good Advice Begins With the Traveler, Not the Booking Screen
My planning process is built around understanding the trip first and comparing the complete experience second.
Listen Before Recommending
Dates and budget matter, but so do travel pace, children’s ages, mobility, food preferences, beach expectations, room needs, and what everyone hopes to get from the trip.
Compare the Complete Trip
A lower starting price can become the more expensive or stressful option after flights, bags, seats, transfers, meals, parking, fees, and extra hotel nights are included.
Explain the Tradeoffs
Every option has strengths and compromises. I would rather explain those honestly than make every resort, cruise, or destination sound perfect.
Organize the Details
Once the trip is chosen, the work shifts to confirmations, deadlines, flights, transfers, documents, reservations, preparation, and making the travel day easier to understand.
Trips I Regularly Help Plan
Different Vacations Require Different Questions
My job is not simply to identify a destination. It is to match the destination, trip structure, accommodations, transportation, and expectations to the travelers.
Cruises
Cruise-line fit, ship size, cabin location, itinerary, departure port, flights, pre-cruise hotels, packages, dining, and embarkation planning.
Caribbean & All-Inclusive Resorts
Island fit, beach conditions, resort layout, food, room categories, family or adults-only atmosphere, transfers, excursions, and overall value.
Mexico & Central America
Resort-focused Mexico trips, Costa Rica nature and adventure, Belize reefs and islands, Panama, cultural itineraries, and custom regional travel.
Alaska & Hawaii
Cruises versus land trips, island or region choice, rental cars, scenic priorities, excursions, trip pace, weather, and realistic travel flow.
Families, Couples & Groups
Trips shaped around children’s ages, multiple rooms, celebrations, anniversaries, shared priorities, group logistics, and different traveler expectations.
Custom & Domestic Trips
U.S. vacations, road trips, city-and-nature combinations, custom itineraries, flights, lodging, transportation, and experiences that do not fit a standard package.
The Details Behind the Recommendation
Practical Planning Is Where a Good Trip Starts to Separate From a Bad Fit
Beautiful photographs can inspire a trip, but the less glamorous details often determine whether the vacation feels smooth, rushed, expensive, relaxing, or disappointing.
What I will not promise: No travel advisor can guarantee perfect weather, prevent every delay, control a supplier, or remove every possible problem. What I can do is help reduce avoidable surprises, prepare you for the important details, and make sure you know who to contact when a question comes up.

What Travelers Notice After Working Together
The most useful proof is not a list of claims from me. It is whether clients felt heard, informed, prepared, and confident about the trip we planned.

A Personal Perspective
A Vacation Is More Than a Reservation
As a husband and father, I understand that travel affects real family budgets, work schedules, school calendars, comfort levels, and the limited time people have together. A vacation can represent months or years of saving and planning.
I do not expect every traveler to arrive knowing the exact destination, cruise line, resort, or itinerary they want. Sometimes the first useful step is simply identifying what matters most and removing the options that are clearly wrong.
You can use the guides to research independently, ask a quick question when you are unsure, or reach out when you are ready for help turning the ideas into a complete trip.
Ready to Start Narrowing Down the Right Trip?
Share your travelers, dates, departure airport, budget range, destination ideas, and the experience you want. I will help you begin comparing the options that make sense.
